Broadwater Path one step away

Broadwater-Path-St-Georges-Weybridge-Land

SCHOOL DECISION DELAY Fourteen years of effort by local residents and councillors have gone into getting agreement and funding for the Broadwater Path, along the edge of Broadwater Lake. As well as being a magnificent facility for the community, the path will help ensure the future of the lake itself. But there is an unexpected last minute obstacle. Just as Surrey County Council was poised to complete formal dedication of Footpath 40 … [Read more...]

Former PPDRA Chairman Elected to Elmbridge Borough Council

Portmore Park and District Residents Association offers congratulations to Michael Freeman, who chaired PPDRA from 2008 to 2014, on his election to serve on Elmbridge Borough Council. Michael stood down from the PPDRA committee (where he was deputy chair) in March 2016 in order to contest the local election, in line with our policy of strict neutrality on party-political matters. His work on the PPDRA committee will be missed, but we are sure … [Read more...]

The River Thames Scheme: piecemeal planning based on unreliable evidence? OPINION by Miles Macleod - The following article expresses the views of the author, and does not necessarily reflect the views of PPDRA.  Will the plans for River Thames flood diversion channels be an effective solution for flooding, or a source of bigger future problems downstream and increased flood risk to London? These are reassuring in some respects, but show that the updated flow modelling, drawing on recent new evidence, has … [Read more...]

Are all those estate agents’ signs that line our local roads really what they seem? Or are they just free advertising, exploiting the goodwill of residents and councils? Some councils ban such signs entirely. Elmbridge Borough Council seems to be more lenient. Two signs have been displayed prominently in Thames Street, Weybridge, attached to a telegraph pole on private land, for 15 months after the advertised properties were sold and … [Read more...]
